A Bank Robbery Gone Wrong

henry-newton-brown-blogHenry Brown—a veteran of the Lincoln County War and a lawman in Caldwell, KS—was in financial trouble.  He’d gotten married to a local girl, bought a house and furnishings, and tried to maintain a big lifestyle.  But his income didn’t match it.

So he and some pals tried to rob a bank in Medicine Lodge, KS in April 1884. It went bad, they were caught and eventually killed by vigilantes.

Henry’s widow, Alice M. Brown, later moved to Indiana and ran a hospital for 30 years. She never remarried.
