Dellie Blachly created a legacy through her own family.
Dellie Blachly overcame tragedy to create an unusual Old West legacy. In September 1893, the McCarty Gang killed her husband during a botched bank robbery in Delta, Colorado. Dellie was tasked with raising eight sons. She set up a system by which the boys received schooling while working at other farms and ranches. Part of their income went into a college fund. The first son, Arthur, graduated, got a job, then sent money home for the fund. And so it went until all the sons attended college. They eventually became successful ranchers, doctors and government officials.
