Narrow building in Belle Fourche, SD.

Seth Bullock and Sol Star are directly responsible for the town of Belle Fourche, SD.
The pair owned the land in the 1880s. They offered a right of way to the railroads, plus
the location of the terminal—for $1. It was the best deal the railroads could find, so they
took it. The first train load of cattle headed east from Belle Fourche in 1890, and the
trade continued to grow (as did the town) through the decade. It also became the county
seat in 1894.
