Can you tell me who painted the cowboy on horseback in the well-known Colt pistol advertisement?
A.L. Gaukroger
West Yorkshire, England
Jim Dunham, historian at the Booth Museum for Western Art in Cartersville, Georgia, says, Frank Earle Schoonover (1877-1972) painted the famous Colt poster of “Tex and Patches.” The 19 1/2-by-34-inch poster was given out gratis by Colt Arms from 1926-1941 and is very collectible today.
