Curtain Close with The Comancheros

In 1961, Michael Curtiz directed his final film—the John Wayne vehicle The Comancheros. As Westerns go, it’s okay even though it’s far from historically accurate (especially with weapons and clothing not around in 1843) and some of the acting isn’t always the best.

It must have been something of a comedown for Curtiz, whose illustrious career spanned nearly 50 years. Among the classics he directed: The Adventures of Robin Hood (with Errol Flynn), White Christmas (with Bing Crosby), and one of the all time greats, Casablanca (with Humphrey Bogart).
