
With all the controversy about an alleged new Billy the Kid photo, a 2010 TW article examined an earlier controversy: an effort to dig up Billy and his mother, to prove or disprove that he’d been killed by Pat Garrett in 1881. It’s a complicated tale, that ultimately cost the people of Lincoln County nearly $300,000 in court fees and damages.
