How many cavalry troops served during the Indian Wars?

The Indian Wars boasted 10 cavalry regiments, with each regiment consisting of 12 companies (each the equivalent of an infantry company).
Most companies had between 60-70 men and officers (not counting cooks, medical personnel and musicians).
During that period, the 10 cavalry regiments totaled 10,970 men. In contrast, the 25 infantry regiments totaled 9,375 men.
