In Hollywood movies and television shows of the ’50s and ’60s, did actors and actresses really drink whiskey when they frequented saloons?

No, unfortunately, they had to drink tea or some other colored-water concoction.

I’ve always thought that if they’d had a shot of real whiskey to loosen ’em up they’d not have been such talking puppets.
