Open Range: The Life of Agnes Morley Cleaveland Darlis A. Miller (Univ. of Oklahoma Press, $24.95)

In 1941, Cleaveland wrote her memoir No Life for a Lady about growing up on a New Mexico cattle ranch where she was born in 1874.

Through the Cleaveland Papers housed at the New Mexico State University, Darlis Miller brings the story of the story to life. More than the rigorous life of ranching, Cleaveland’s life of motherhood, community activism and the time period leading to the Cold War is vividly portrayed by the author. This is a fine biography of a grand lady.
