Billy the Kid found a novel hiding place.
Billy the Kid (photo) participated in the killing of Lincoln County Sheriff William Brady and one of his deputies on the morning of April 1, 1878. Afterwards, he had to hide. Friends at the Tunstall Store pulled up some floorboards and hid him there. For hours, the Kid was silent as searchers looked for him, including in the store. Despite the fact that he’d left a blood trail (Billy was wounded in the earlier affray) and had a packed and saddled horse in the corral, he was not found. Later that afternoon, he made his successful escape.
