Gunfighter Luke Short died in bed.
Luke Short was a shootist, a man of action, one who had been involved in several shooting scrapes over the years. He counted Long-haired Jim Courtright and Charlie Storms among his victims. But Short’s end was anything but exciting. In 1893, at the age of 39, Luke exhibited signs of kidney disease. His wife took him from Texas to Geuda Springs, Kansas in hopes of finding a cure. There was none. Short died in bed, with his boots off, on September 10. His body was returned to Fort Worth for burial.
