His whereabouts are unknown, even today.
The Apache Kid and nine other prisoners (most Indian) are being transported from Globe, Arizona Territory, to the prison in Yuma. But on November 2, 1889, they make a break. They overpower their guards, killing two. A third is spared, reportedly because he’d shown kindness to the Kid by giving him cigarettes. The prisoners quickly disappear into the wilds of Arizona. There are reported sightings of the Kid over the years, but nothing definite. What happened to him is a mystery to this day.
