The Taos Revolt

Hispanics and Puebloans in present day New Mexico were concerned in 1847.  The US had just taken over the region, and the natives feared they would lose their lands.  So on January 19, they started a revolt, aimed at killing Anglo leaders. A large number died, including Governor Charles Bent, before US troops moved into put the revolt down. More than 150 rebels died in the fighting.  Over 400 were capt
