Henry Brooks (seated left) was called “Peg Leg” after losing a limb in a gunfight in 1884. He was an active participation in the Brooks-McFarland Feud, between 1896 and 1902 in what’s now Oklahoma. In fact, Peg Leg was one of the few survivors of the feud. But he continued on the bad path.
In 1920, Brooks was a bootlegger, illegally making and selling alcohol, in his native Lawrence County, Alabama. A sheriff’s posse came out to arrest him on January 11, but Brooks fought it out—and was hit 12 times. He died on the spot.
