Will McLaury is in Tombstone in November 1881. He’s joined the prosecution, trying to hang the Earps and Doc Holliday for the OK Corral shootout. He is confident–too much so–that his side will win. But he adds an ominous line in a letter to his sister: “I am trying to punish these men through the courts of the country first if that fails–then we may submit.” That comment leads many scholars to wonder if Will is behind the assassination attempt on Virgil Earp in December and the murder of Morgan Earp the next March.
