Billy the Kid gets caught holding stolen goods.

September 23, 1875. Henry McCarty–later Billy the Kid–is arrested for the first time. He’d been holding goods stolen from a Chinese laundry in Silver City, NM. His landlady found them and called in the sheriff. Lawman Harvey Whitehill decided to scare the kid straight by holding him for a night or two in jail, hoping the youngster would learn a lesson. Instead, Henry shimmied up a chimney and escaped.
