Did Jesse James and Billy the Kid really break bread together?

July 26, 1879. Dr. Henry Hoyt (photo) has dinner at the Adobe Hotel in Las Vegas, NM. At his table: William H. Bonney and a mysterious stranger who says his name is Thomas Howard. Fifty years later, in his book Frontier Doctor, Hoyt claims the men were Billy the Kid and Jesse James. There’s no additional evidence to prove or disprove the story. The experts are divided on its truth. But the legend persists today–that two of the big Old West outlaw names once dined together.
