Billy Wilson rode with Billy the Kid—was arrested with him by Pat Garrett at Stinking Springs in December 1880. He later went straight, in Texas, under his birth name of Dave Anderson.  He eventually became the sheriff of Terrell County, in the Big Bend area.

In 1918, Anderson went to arrest a cowboy in a Sanderson saloon.  The suspect shot him dead when he entered the building.  A deputy then fatally shot the cowboy minutes later.  Anderson, who was a popular figure, had a large funeral prior to burial in Bracketville.
