Billy the Kid’s sibling Joe went in a different direction.

Joe McCarty/Antrim had one claim to fame: he was Billy the Kid’s brother (or step-brother, depending on which source you check). He never got involved in the violence that claimed Billy. Instead, Joe spent most of his life as a small-time gambler, moving from one town to another, looking for that big win. He never found it. Sometime in the 1920’s, he was reportedly chatting with a reporter about various things. Someone told the journalist that he was speaking with the brother of Billy the Kid. The newspaperman replied, “So what?”
