The legendary lawman also left a mark as a lawmaker.

Seth Bullock is best known for his time as a lawman in Deadwood, in the days when the gold rush town was as wild and wooly as any on the frontier. But he had many other credits to his name. Prior to moving to the Dakotas, Bullock spent time in Montana—where he served two years in the Territorial Senate in 1871 and ’72. Among other things, the legislature began the process that led to Yellowstone being set aside as the first national park.
