Cassidy grabs the cash in Idaho.
August 13, 1896. Butch Cassidy, Elzy Lay and Bub Meeks hold up the bank in Montpelier, Idaho. They get away with up to $15,000. Meeks is the only one caught (and sent to prison for the crime). The outlaws used what would become signature escape strategies: they scouted the area for about two weeks prior to the stickup; they placed relays of horses along the route; and they used cloth or leather to cover the horse’s hooves; etc.
