October 29, 1881. Ike Clanton files murder charges against the Earps and Doc Holliday for their role in the OK Corral shootout. Virgil Earp is suspended from his job as chief of police. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 31. What should have taken just a few minutes turns into a de facto trial, lasting nearly a month. Ultimately, Judge Wells Spicer absolved the defendants of the charges in the deaths of Billy Clanton and Frank and Tom McLaury.
