The Wichita hotel owner goes up against an army squad.

February 28, 1871. A posse of soldiers led by Deputy U.S. Marshal Jack Bridges (photo) enters Wichita, Kansas. They’re going to arrest “Handsome Jack” Ledford, owner of the Harris House hotel. After years of running an outlaw outfit, Ledford has been trying to go straight–but there’s still a $2000 reward on his head for previous misdeeds.

The lawmen head to the hotel. Ledford runs out the back and hides in an outhouse. Bridges and company surround it. The quarry comes out blazing, hitting Bridges in the arm before he’s gunned down.
