The train robbers are taken down by a California posse.

June 10-11, 1893. Train robbers John Sontag and Chris Evans are taken down by a posse outside Visalia, CA. The men had been on the prod for months, holding off lawmen in running gunfights at least four times.

Sontag (photo) is captured and dies three weeks later. Evans loses an arm and eye and is sent to prison.
