Frank Loving vs. Levi Richardson

April 5, 1879. Frank Loving and Levi Richardson go at it in the Long Branch Saloon in Dodge City. The cause? A woman. The two are playing poker at the same table–and cussing each other out. Richardson goes for his gun and Loving does the same. From a distance of no more than five feet, the two empty their revolvers. Loving has a scratch on his hand. Richardson takes three bullets, including a fatal shot to the chest. A coroners inquest concludes it was self-defense and Loving walks.
