John Slaughter found a way to avoid the stock inspectors.

There are many stories about rancher John Slaughter chasing outlaws out of Cochise County. But the one-time sheriff wasn’t shy of pulling some chicanery himself when it came to bending the rules along the Mexican border. He’d notify the border inspectors he was bringing 15 head of cattle across the line at Guadalupe Pass. While the inspectors were distracted counting the 15 head, his cowboys would be driving a hundred at another place along the border.
