Barney Mason

Barney Mason and Pat Garrett were tight. Mason rode posse with the lawman in his search for Billy the Kid. He was there when Tom O’Folliard and Charlie Bowdre were killed (he was not present when the Kid died). Garrett and Mason were also married in a double wedding ceremony in 1880.

But at some point, things went bad. Supposedly, Mason was upset that he didn’t get a share of the rewards for members of Kid’s outfit. Mason later did prison time for stealing a calf. He moved to Bakersfield, California where he died in 1916.
