Wild Bill’s last gunfight was tragic.

October 5, 1871. Wild Bill Hickok’s last gunfight.

The shootist is marshal of Abilene, Kansas. He hears a shot coming from a group of Texans, including gambler Phil Coe. Coe says he shot at a stray dog–but guns aren’t allowed in town. Things escalate, guns are drawn and Hickok puts two bullets into Coe’s gut. He will die later.

Hickok then hears someone running up behind him. The lawman turns and fires–and kills his special deputy Mike Williams. Wild Bill is never quite the same after the accidental killing.
