Charlie Storms was a well-known gambler who frequented some of the wildest of the Wild West towns after the Civil War. In fact, Storms met his end in Tombstone when he got into a shootout with fellow sporting man Luke Short.
But there’s another story about Storms. He was in Deadwood on August 2, 1876 when Wild Bill Hickok was murdered in Nuttall and Mann’s Saloon No. 10. Legend has it that Storms ran into the establishment and picked up one of Hickok’s pistols as a souvenir. That’s never been proven.
