A lawman was too much of a terror to outlaws.

Dave Allison was a top Texas lawman in the late 1800s and early 1900s. But his reputation may have come back to haunt him. In 1923, Allison was a detective for the Texas Cattle Raisers Association, working to fight rustlers that were still a problem. He and one of his colleagues were sitting in a Seminole, Texas hotel lobby on the evening of April 1, 1923. Two rustlers walked in and opened fire, killing both detectives. The killers were apprehended and sent to the Texas penitentiary.
