One might say that love brought down California bandit Tiburcio Vasquez. In 1873, while hiding out at his brother’s home, Vasquez seduced and impregnated his own niece. That turned most of his family against him.
Later that same year, he ran away with the wife of one of his chief lieutenants. The man was incensed by the betrayal. He told authorities where to find Vasquez, who was soon arrested and jailed. In March 1875, Vasquez was hanged after being convicted of murder.
