The Reno Gang’s last robbery is their largest.
May 28, 1868. Just two months after breaking jail, the Reno Gang makes its biggest score. Some 12 outlaws rob a train at the water refill site of Marshfield, Indiana, south of Indianapolis. They get approximately $97,000—well over $3-million in today’s money. But this is the last hurrah for the outlaws. Over the next seven months, vigilantes will lynch 11 gang members. Most of the Marshfield loot is never recovered.
