A crooked lawman in New Mexico.

Eugenio Alarid was a lawman in Las Vegas, New Mexico in the 1890s. But hidden behind the badge was an outlaw; Alarid was a member of the White Caps Gang led by Vicente Silva (photo). Alarid was also something of an enforcer. He and others hanged gang member Patricio Maes, who’d been talking with legitimate legal authorities. Alarid later killed another White Cap for turning traitor. Alarid was later convicted in the Maes killing and sentenced to life in prison.
