April 3, 1882. Outlaw Jesse James is gunned down in a rented home in St. Joseph, Missouri. The culprit? Robert Ford, a relatively new addition to the James criminal outfit. Ford and his brother Charlie are tried and convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting. But by a pre-arranged agreement, the pair are pardoned by Missouri Governor Thomas Crittenden. Charlie commits suicide a few years later. Robert Ford is murdered in Creede, Colorado in 1892.
