John Clum—mayor of Tombstone…for at time.

January 4, 1881. John Clum is elected mayor of Tombstone, making him one of the most powerful men in the area. Mayor. Editor of The Tombstone Epitaph. Head of the vigilance committee. Postmaster. Library board member. But his tenure didn’t go as planned.

Clum’s election platform focused on real estate issues, but he was unable to fix them. The Cow-boy–Earp conflict turned violent and continued through the first half of 1882. Clum was one of the targets of threats. He did not run for reelection and sold his interests and left in May.
