The Kid’s First Kill

Windy Cahill becomes the first victim of Billy.

August 17, 1877. Henry McCarty, also known as Henry Antrim, later known as Billy the Kid, kills his first man. Frank “Windy” Cahill has been bullying the teenager. The two get into a tussle in a saloon near Fort Grant, Arizona Territory. Billy pulls a pistol and shoots his tormentor in the side; Cahill dies within hours. Before he dies, Cahill admits that he is at fault in the incident. The Kid doesn’t wait around for Cahill’s statement. He runs and never faces trial.
