Was there another member of the Dalton Gang on the way to Coffeyville?
For 130 years, speculation has centered on a possible sixth rider with the Dalton Gang in the lead-up to their raid on Coffeyville, Kansas on October 5, 1892. Travelers reported seeing six men riding toward the town in the days before the incident. Bill Doolin (photo) is often suggested as that rider. Either he got cold feet or became ill before the attempted robbery, surviving for another four years. Speculation has also come up with other names (like Bill Dalton). But there is no conclusive evidence of another Dalton Gang member who was supposed to hit Coffeyville.
