The death of his mother set him on the wrong trail.
September 16, 1874. Catherine Antrim dies of tuberculosis in her home in Silver City, New Mexico Territory. She is about 45 and has been confined to her bed for the last four months of her life. Her sons Henry (about 14) and Joe (around 12) help dig her grave that same day. The
funeral is held the next day. Henry, on his own, moves around in Arizona and New Mexico—and becomes famous as Billy the Kid.
