William “Big Foot” Wallace
William “Big Foot” Wallace.

William “Big Foot” Wallace is a Texas legend.  He fought Mexicans and Indians. He was a Texas Ranger.  In spite of all of his dangerous adventures, he lived to age 81.

One of his stories is striking.  Wallace was driving a mail hack from San Antonio to El Paso.  Indians stole his mules en route. So Big Foot carried the mail—on foot—the rest of the way.  He later said he stopped at the first house he encountered and ate 27 eggs before finishing his trek.
