“Sugarfoot,” the late ‘50s TV Western produced by Warner Brothers, wasn’t a new idea.  It was based on a 1954 film The Boy from Oklahoma, starring Will Rogers, Jr.—which was also produced by Warners.  And several of the episodes were based on earlier Westerns as the studio sought ways to save money.

In fact, the “Sugarfoot” pilot was so similar to the movie that Sheb Wooley and Slim Pickens reprised their film roles.  Only the star—Will Hutchins—was different. “Sugarfoot” ran between 1957 and 1961, rotating with “Cheyenne” and “Bronco.”
