Dick Glass was a Creek freedman who ran roughshod across the Indian Territory in the 1880s. He waged a war against Cherokee authorities in a dispute between the two tribes. But he also robbed, ran liquor, and murdered from a base just a few miles outside Muskogee.
In 1885, Deputy US Marshal Sam Sixkiller and a posse ambushed Glass and his gang at Colbert in the Chickasaw Nation. Sixkiller gunned down the outlaw leader. The lawmen killed or captured the rest of the outfit, ending the reign of one of the most notorious hardcases in the West.
