Outlaw Jim Berry doesn’t get far after a big haul.

Jim Berry was a part of a robbery outfit (photo) that included Sam Bass and made its mark in the Black Hills. They hit the big time with a train stickup in September 1877; the Nebraska job netted them more than $60,000 in gold. Berry ran back to his home area of Missouri—but he tried to trade in his share of the gold for currency. Authorities caught up with him and put a shotgun load into his legs as he tried to run. He died two days later.
