Newton Earp and his family.

Newton Earp (in photo, right), the half-brother of the “Fighting Earps,” lived long enough to see his siblings’ exploits hit the silver screen.  The year was 1927, when he was 91 and living with family in Northern California. Newton went to see Wild Bill Hickok, a film starring William S. Hart.  The characters of Morgan and Wyatt were portrayed.  And during a shootout scene, the script called for them to duck behind some barrels.  Newton was not pleased: “Damned fakes!  Ain’t no Earp boys hidin’ behind barrels when a fight’s coming!” Newton reportedly never saw another movie.
