The Earps Come To Tombstone But not Josie…

On December 1, 1879, Wyatt, James and Virgil Earp (and spouses) enter Tombstone.  They’re looking for the pot of gold, but they’ll end up with something different.  Two years later, they depart after the violence of their ongoing encounters with the Cowboys.

Interestingly, in her later remembrances, Sarah Josephine Marcus Earp claims that she came to Tombstone with the Pauline Markham acting troupe…on December 1, 1879.  But later research refutes that assertion.  She probably just borrowed the date her husband arrived in “The Town Too Tough To Die” to hide her own sordid history.
