These are some popular myths about the Grand Canyon State.

Actually there are hundreds of lost mines in Arizona.

  1. The Gunfight at OK Corral was famous at the time it happened.  It didn’t become famous until the 1920s and was called the “Street Fight” until the 1957 movie, “Gunfight at OK Corral.”
  2. Arizona has the hottest temperature in the US.Thanks to the northern part of the state Arizona ranks number 11. Texas is number one.
  3. Arizona has the most boats in the nation. Florida has the most boats. Texas and California round out the top three. Arizona does have more boats than Nevada.
  4. The Lost Dutchman wasn’t a Dutchman. He was German.
  5. 5. Arizona is the “Senior Citizen State. Not according to the federal census. The state’s median age is only 37.7, lower than the nation’s at 38.1. Maine has more seniors with 44.6, then New Hampshire, 43.2 and Florida 42. According to the federal 2018 census, the state’s median age is 37.7, below the country’s median age of 38.1. That makes Arizona a demographic millennial, compared to those Senior Citizens like Maine at 44.6, New Hampshire at 43.2 and Florida at 42.
  6. The Grand Canyon is the nation’s most popular National Park. The Great Smoky Mountain National Park draws nearly twice as many visitors annually.
