DVD Review:  THE MARK OF ZORRO
(Kino Lorber; $29.95)

In this Blu-ray release of the 1940 classic, Tyrone Power stars as Diego, outwardly the effete son of the ousted Los Angeles alcalde, but secretly the masked swordsman and champion of the peons, Zorro! The best-ever talkie telling of Johnston McCulley’s tale, this exuberant movie boasts Rouben Mamoulian’s hearty direction, a thrilling Oscar-nominated Alfred Newman score, beautiful Linda Darnell, wicked Gale Sondergaard and Hollywood’s two master swordsmen, Power and villain Basil Rathbone, in the best sword fight on film.
