Slant 6 Cowboys is a group in search of a genre. This CD isn’t for the mainstream Cowboy music purist. Driving percussion and overbearing instrumentation drown out the vocals on most selections. That said, the cut “Out of Time,” a search for a truth only heaven knows, is worth giving a listen to. Lead singer and lyric writer Don Whitcher does a good job, when he can be heard over the crashing strains and chords. A few fair sounds, but wait for the next CD.—Sandy Whiting
