Painting by Thom Ross “Casting Long Shadows”

Artist Thom Ross is well known for his Western works, with efforts ranging from Tombstone to the Little Bighorn and Buffalo Bill.  The Santa Fe based artist says his work emphasizes the myth and legend of historical folk heroes.

One such work is “Casting Long Shadows,” portraying the Earps and Doc Holliday with, indeed, long shadows.  Ross says the actual Gunfight at the OK Corral is historically insignificant, and yet its impact through popular culture has been immense—hence, the protagonists have “long shadows.”
