The Tutts were Whigs and the Everetts were Democrats, and both wanted to control Marion County in northern Arkansas in 1844. It quickly escalated into deadly violence. Over the next six years, at least 14 men were killed and several wounded.
Finally, the state governor sent the state militia into the area and arrested all the Everetts (who later escaped and left the area). The war came to an end in 1850. One of the Tutts, Davis, was later killed by Wild Bill Hickok in 1865.
