You never see any old-time photos of cowboys, lawmen or outlaws wearing glasses. Even in Western movies you never see anyone wearing glasses. Was their vision perfect?

Their eyesight was no better or worse than eyesight today. Glasses were perceived as too “professional” for the rough and tumble, devil-may-care types. Also, glasses were hard to replace when broken, and were difficult to wear in the elements, and they got in the way. I do remember a Western TV show in the 1960s that featured a bad man with beady eyes, wearing a pair of small, wire-rimmed glasses, and they sure made him look mean.
